Serious Warnings For The Young

By R. G. Flexon

"I Have Settled With Him:"

In a church in N______, West Virginia, the altar call had been given. Thirty-seven people were at the altar. The pianist of the church was sitting on the front seat. The Holy Ghost told me to go tell her she was getting her last call from Him that night. I hesitated, telling Him I had never done anything like that in my ministry. He said, “Either do it or her soul will be required of you at the judgment.”

I went and told her what God had said. She screamed and fell on her knees. She was up in a minute and faced the audience telling them what I had said, saying the Holy Ghost had told her the same thing, and fell at the altar screaming screams of rebellion. She soon left the altar. I went to her asking if she had settled it with God. She said she had, and had told Him she would not mind Him and asked Him to leave her alone and she would never bother Him again.

I returned to the platform and asked her father her age. He said 14. Some years later, I was preaching in a camp at C_______, Pennsylvania. That girl came in the tabernacle with two children. I went back and spoke to her about her soul. She said she was now a married woman with two children. I complimented her for the beauty of her children, then asked her how it was with her soul. She asked if I remembered that night in the N_______, Church. I told her I would never forget it.

She said, “When I told God if He would leave me alone, I would never bother Him again, He took me at my word and has never spoken to me since.” Lost and knew it!

"I Will Never Do It:"

In a revival in H_______, Maryland, a girl, eighteen years old was at the altar. She seemed to be praying good, but she suddenly brought her hand down on the altar saying, “I will never do it,” and left the altar.

Eighteen months later I was in a revival in the same church. Monday night that girl came to the meeting with three other girls. As I preached, I noticed the other girls were affected. I went to invite them to the altar. They hesitated. When they did, that girl, who had made that statement eighteen months before, fell on her knees, and taking the other girls by the hand, said, please do not do as I did when Brother Flexon was here before. At the altar I said my last no to God.”

She led them to the altar but she went back to her seat. Many years later I met her in a camp and when I spoke to her about her soul, she pointed back to that night when she said, “I will never do it,” as the night she crossed the deadline.

A Tragic Ending:

I had preached in a camp in F______ C_______, Alabama. A young man and his wife were at the altar. The wife was kneeling at the front of the altar. The wife was kneeling at the front of the altar and the husband on the opposite side. Two small children stood beside them. The husband soon claimed victory. The wife was still praying when at eleven o'clock, weary, I went to my room. The other evangelist, R___ French and his wife said they would stay on with her. I had to preach the next morning.

As I went to the platform I noticed a heaviness over the service. It was not easy to preach. When I had finished, the people gathered around asking if I had heard what had taken place. They told me that young lady had, about one o'clock that morning at the altar, looked up saying, “I will never do it.”

That morning she and her husband had eaten breakfast together, he had kissed her goodbye and gone to the garage and backed out his car to go to work. Hearing a shot fired in the house he rushed back in and found his wife lying dead in a pool of blood. Seven hours after she had told God she would never do it, she was in eternity, forced there by her own hand. Two children must bear the stigma for a lifetime and a soul must suffer in hell forever. Tragedy of tragedies.

- A note from Dad O'Connor -

Our dear readers, especially you younger folk:

We will be posting more true accounts as above in future issues. The Scriptures make it clear that there is such a thing as “crossing the line.” It is an awful thought to turn one's back on God as the young ladies did above. The Bible says:

1. "Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth..." (Ecclesiastes 12:1)

2. "...today, if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.” (Hebrews 4:7)

3. "He, that being often reproved and hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy." (Proverbs 29:1)

4. "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation...” (Hebrews 2:3)

5. "...now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2)

6. "...choose you this day whom you will serve..." (Joshua 24:15)

7. "...because you knew not the time of your visitation." (Luke 19:44)

8. "Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near." (Isaiah 55:6)

9. "...but now [God] commands all men everywhere to repent." (Acts 17:30)

10. "...Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

In the above two stories related by Brother R. G. Flexon, a very kind and loving minister, we read of tragic events. The first girl was a ministers daughter, aged 14. She had been raised in the church, and was even playing the piano for her Dad's meetings, yet she secretly had no intention of saying an “eternal YES” to God, nor of fully surrendering her life to Him. When she let out screams of rebellion at the altar, and later confessed that in her heart, she said “I will never do it,” which in her thinking meant that she would never serve the Lord with a willing heart.

The second young lady went to pray at the altar with her young husband and two babies, but somehow she was not sincere about it, and had no intention of fully surrendering her life to Christ, where she had also declared that she had no intention of giving her heart and life completely to the Lord Jesus (“I will never do it”).

My dear precious sons and daughters, it is not worth all the things which the world has to offer, to lose one's soul. A dear old neighbor lady, who was like a “Gramma” to me, grabbed hold of my hand one summer evening, just one year before the Lord called her home. She said: “Mikey, come on and walk with me around the yard (she had a beautiful garden of flowers, which I assumed she was intent on showing-off.)” I soon realized that she had something else in mind for as we walked, she being a tiny little lady looked up in my face with the most heavenly smile, and began to speak about the Lord. I was a tough kid, always “rough and ready” as they say, but something grabbed hold of my heart, and I had to do everything in my power to keep from breaking down and crying. That was nearly fifty-three years ago, and I can see her face and hear her sweet voice now just as clearly as then. She spoke these words after awhile: “What shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul, or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul.” That Scripture pierced my soul like a hot dagger. I came under conviction of the Holy Spirit. I could not shake it no matter how hard I tried. It followed me day and night. It never left me for one full year, until shortly before her home-going, I was led into a humble little church, where I one Sunday night, fell into the altar and with tears and strong repentance, prayed through to God and rededicated my life for His service. I had been saved at age eight and a half, but had no real encouragement to follow-up with it, since my family were members of a modernistic church which preached only a social gospel.

Please listen to old Dad! All that the world has to offer you is a sham, a counterfeit, and a lie. The way of the world, with all of its varied forms of sinful indulgence, appears very enticing at the first, but then, as a great serpent, winds around you tighter and tighter, making you its slave, until at last, it destroys you. Sin is not your friend! Sin is the enemy of your soul! It is a deadly poison! It is a lethal and destructive force intent upon dragging into the flames of Hell, as many poor souls as it possibly can.

Thank God there is an answer! His name is Jesus Christ the Lord! He is the Way-Maker and the Bondage-Breaker! As you read these articles, please be very careful to open your heart unto Him! No matter how shattered your life may be; no matter how far you have fallen into sin and iniquity (regardless of which categories), I am here to tell you that THERE IS HOPE! Jesus loves you just as you are, no matter how messed up your life may be, He cares for you, son; He cares for you, daughter; and so do we. We love you and pray for you wherever you may be around this great wide world!

I remember a song which I came to love as a teen-ager. In America, we have a style of music known as “bluegrass,” which is sung by folk who live in the hills and mountains. It is mostly acoustic music, and the singing is plain, and without pretense, but Oh, how it grips the heart. Our Lord Jesus used much of this music in my early Christian experience to encourage me and cheer me on my way. The song I came to love, among others, had one line especially, which got a hold of my life:

Don't throw your life out to the world,

To live a life of sin;

For Jesus is patiently calling today,

But it might get too late to come in.”

Think of the message in these words. Today, all over the world, beautiful young men and women are throwing their lives out to the world, like a can of garbage; just throwing themselves away to sin and destruction. My dear little one, Jesus is tenderly calling today; He is patiently standing at your heart's door, dealing with you, convicting you, drawing you by His Holy Spirit. I hope and pray, as sincerely as I know how, that you will answer His call, and not refuse Him, but receive Him before it becomes too late to “come-in.”

Right now, as you read this, I'm sure that our precious Lord is very close to your heart. I know He's dealing with you, even this moment. Perhaps you are crying. Perhaps you are aware of a feeling of which you are not accustomed: a heavy sorrow that you can't explain; something that makes you feel all broken-up inside. Listen to me, that is the conviction of God and the drawing of the precious Holy Spirit upon your heart right now. Find some place, even this moment, where you can go and have some privacy. Just stop everything, if possible, and take time to pray with me. Some of you may be half way around the world from America: I can't be there with you in person, but I can be there with you in spirit, and with my words that you are now reading. If you will pray the following prayer sincerely and from your heart, you will become a son/daughter of God. Jesus will become your Savior, Lord, and very best friend. It will be the beginning step for you to follow Him and own Him as your personal Lord and Savior.

Please! Please take time to write to us, email us, or call us, and tell us about this moment, when you prayed. We are interested to know and to hear from you. We promise that we will place you upon our prayer list, where the whole world can see your name and pray for you, and we will personally pray for you as well. We will send you a Bible as soon as possible, and other Christian writings that will be a help to you, as you begin to follow your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please tell us what language you read, so we will be able to locate a Bible in your native language. Now, please pray with me and mean it as truly and sincerely as you have meant anything in your life. This is a moment that will change the course of your life and a moment which you will never forget, if you will be true and sincere as you pray:

Dearest Lord Jesus Christ,

I believe upon your name. I believe that you are the very Son of God and that you are God. I believe that you died upon the cross for me, to save me and forgive me of every sin. I now invite you into my heart, into my soul, and into my spirit, as my Lord and Savior. Lead me in the path of Holiness and let me grow in your grace, and become a real worker for you, and help me to tell others of you, and bring them also into this wonderful experience of salvation and sins forgiven. I thank you very sincerely and I praise you and glorify you as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Amen and Amen!
