An Appeal For Christian Workers

(Abridged and Edited)

(The Appeal below is excerpted from an article published in 1987, by a missionary-group involved in the translation and publication of Bibles for the foreign fields. We have chosen to herein post this because of the unvarnished sincerity and urgency expressed in its words! Our dear brethren from 1987 were appealing for workers in the Harvest! It is a tragic and heartrending commentary that the Church today, in many quarters, has an abundance of “shirkers,” and a glaring deficit of “willing workers.” It behooves us all, to hear the voice of our Lord Jesus in this appeal, and to realize that the hour is now darker and later by far, than was the case in 1987.)

  • Very Sincerely, Brother O'Connor.

The Appeal from 1987:

Very few people realize what a price the translators and printers of God's Word, really pay...not in money, but in actual danger, imprisonments, hard work, and real dedication and inspiration from God; not giving-up until the Bibles roll off the presses!

The first translators of the Bible in any language, have a real exciting story to tell how God alone helped them to preserve God's Word and how God inspired them to faithfully translate the Bible into the language they were working in.

And we pray and hope that God will speak to some hearts to dedicate themselves to the needed hard work of fighting the devil, in order to translate God's Word into other languages that do not even have John 3:16 in their language!

[Yes, Beloved, as shocking as this is, it is very true, even unto this present time. Please ponder these things in your heart with sincere and earnest prayer.]

God needs people who will consecrate themselves, forgetting ease and comfort; good jobs, and popularity...we don't need world-travelers...we need consecrated men and women that will “endure hardness, as good soldiers of Jesus Christ,” who have for their “goal in life” - to reach the souls that are still without God's Holy Word... and stay there until by God's help, you can leave the Word of God in their hands!

There are no substitutes nor shortcuts to glory...Lots of Christian young people, and older ones too, are going on tours to different mission-fields to help for a few days, but when the tour is over, they take a fling into some worldly amusement place...This is not what Jesus prayed for...Jesus said: “Pray ye that the Lord of the harvest send forth laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:37, 38)

God needs people that are not afraid to work in the heat and in the cold...no time off for the pleasures of this world...but your heart is centered on getting a big job done for those that have never had God's Word in their language!

I want to ask you a question: If a factory needs workers, and people just come through for a few days...but, if no one remains to continue the work...will anything be accomplished? God needs men and women, young and strong, that will go to the ends of the earth to labor for the Master. Jesus said: “He that putteth his hand to the plow and looketh back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”

How much God needs everyone of us to fully dedicate ourselves to get the pure Gospel to those that are bound in heathen darkness...God will help anyone that will dedicate himself to serve God to the best of his ability...to get the Word of God to the ends of the earth!

God needs your educated sons and daughters...to do His work reaching the heathen with the Gospel. God needs good, experienced press men both for web press and sheet fed press...to print the Bibles to the ends of the earth...Jesus said: “Go work in My Vineyard!” Not: “Work in the world” (when God needs your talents), but: “Go work in My Vineyard!”
