GETTING STARTED WITH THE REPAIRS

As you can see from the first picture, the problem started when a section of the floor collapsed.  The concrete floor is old to begin with and eventually we hope to replace it completely, but for now a repair would be sufficient.  We discovered that there was a hollow trough that ran underneath the floor, designed as a type of drainage tile to channel spring water and rain water.  Through the years it had washed out, leaving the hollow channel under the thin layer of cement.  So I began to break it out with the sledge hammer and get it opened up.  You can see in the third picture that the channel is about 15 feet long.  It actually continues further, but the other half of it is still solid, so we left it alone.

A LOCAL FRIEND COMES TO HELP

While working, a friend who lives across the street from the church came over to help with the progress.  Drake has been a help and blessing to the church through the years, and although he does not attend church services and doesn't talk much about his beliefs, he has done more to help this church with repairs than many professing Christians.  Often when he sees my car there, he will come over and ask if there is anything he can do to help!  Please remember to pray for Drake, for the salvation of his soul and God's blessing for his kindness in helping so much!

THE CONCRETE IS POURED

We opened up the old concrete along the edges of the adjoining sections and got it ready for the new.  My friend, Stephen Schmidt, from Attica, came and helped me with the mixing.  Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me at the time, so I don't have pictures of it going in.  Stephen and I mixed 58 bags of concrete in two wheelbarrows and poured it in.  During the process I trowelled it smooth, and you can see it in its finished state!  Praise the Lord!

WITH OUR LORD'S HELP AND THE SUPPORT OF THOSE WHO WOULD BE SO KIND AS TO MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS WORTHY CAUSE, AND WITH YOUR PRAYERS, AND THE PRAYERS OF THE BODY OF CHRIST, WE BELIEVE THAT GOD WILL MAKE A WAY FOR THE RESTORATION OF THIS GOSPEL LIGHTHOUSE!
