Beloved Friends in every part of the World:
I have chosen to welcome you to The Harvest Call, by sharing with you the beloved Missionary Hymn below.
So clearly can I go back fifty years in time, to my days in Bible School. Oh! Those were glorious and precious years
in the dealings of God: So oft have I affirmed that they were the three most blessed years of my entire life. It is a hallowed
memory that harks back to the Student Body gathered together (for Missionary Services especially). We would raise our voices
singing this beloved hymn until the rafters of that old chapel nearly vibrated. With hands upraised and looking heavenward,
the tears ran freely, perhaps upon every face! Oh... how we saw in those days the great need of the Nations for the Gospel
of Jesus Christ! How keenly we felt the pull, and the call... "Come over and help us..." After all these years, I never cease
to be deeply moved at the singing of this precious, precious hymn. How close are these words to the heart of God and to my
own. Amen!
Please remember: The Power of God is just the same
today! Hallelujah!
FAR AND NEAR
Far and near the fields are teeming
With the waves of ripened grain;
Far and near their gold is gleaming
O’er the sunny slope and plain.
(Refrain)
Lord of
harvest, send forth reapers!
Hear us, Lord, to Thee we cry;
Send them now the sheaves to gather
Ere the harvest time pass by.
Send them forth with morn’s first beaming,
Send them in the noontide’s glare;
When the sun’s last rays are gleaming,
Bid them gather everywhere.
O thou, whom thy Lord is sending,
Gather now the sheaves of gold;
Heav’nward then at evening wending,
Thou shalt come with joy untold.
- By James O. Thompson, 1885.
